Food Trucks

Food, kids

I’ve been on a food truck kick lately. Yes, it is a trendy thing to do right now, everyone’s doing it, but let me tell you why food truck dining is the most wonderful idea in the world, from a mom’s perspective.
1. The food arrives in small portions. I am fed up with large portions in restaurants. This is why people are fat. The restaurant charges more and therefore gives you more food than you know what to do with. I would rather be charged 1/2 the amount and get 1/2 the portion.
2. The food trucks offer unique cuisine. Today, my kids ate from Piaggio on Wheels, the Argentine barbecue truck. I’m trying to get my kids accustomed to new food without overwhelming them. Doing it with small portions, in a new, fun locale each week. And we can sample from a few different trucks each time. It’s working.
3. It’s affordable. Going back to point number one, small portions, low cost. I don’t want to spend a lot of money exposing my kids to new things. In the past, we would have had to dine out at individual restaurants. What if the kids didn’t like the food? I don’t feel bad if a food gets a bad review from my kids because it’s cheaper that a full entree at a restaurant and I can get them something else at another truck right away to replace the item they didn’t like. I can also bring my own drinks and I only have to tip a few bucks per truck.
4. It’s (relatively) healthy. Well, healthier than fast food for sure. We’re talking restaurant quality, made to order food for you. From a truck!!! We’re not talking roach coach here. No gross pre made sandwiches. It’s mostly grilled food. Tacos, sliders, gourmet sandwiches are a big items on the trucks menus.
5. Dessert Trucks!

Hi Again, Wrapping up our Summer fun

kids

Dear Readers,
Those of you who are parents will totally understand where I’m coming from on this one. Those of you who aren’t parents will think “whatever, lady” and can move on to the next blog. I still can’t believe summer is almost over. Man, it went fast, didn’t it? This year is a tough one for me. The boy is going into first grade. I can handle him getting bigger, maturing, he is becoming such a neat young man. But, my baby girl is going to start preschool this year. To finally have both of them in school is bittersweet. On one hand, it’s such a relief, I got them both through those early years, when I thought I would lose my mind from not having stimulating adult conversation that didn’t revolve around potty training or organic baby food, teaching them the alphabet and numbers, teaching them to spell their names, potty training, play dates and so on and so forth. I love the notion that I’ll have a little quiet time in the afternoons to read a book or get errands done. But really, I’ll probably waste my time away on Twitter. I promise to work on my blog, though.
On the other hand, however, I’m releasing my last child out into the world. Even if it’s for a few hours a day, a few days a week, she will be taught by someone else, out of my arms and my line of sight. She doesn’t even call me Mommy any more, now I’m just Mom to both of them. She used to sit for hours in my lap, now she can’t last a few seconds because she’s too antsy to go and play with her brother. Now I understand why some women go for that third child around this time. I’m not even contemplating that. I’m done, I’m exhausted, there’s no way I can handle chasing them around all day and staying up all night with another baby.
Thanks for reading this one, I know most people are sick of reading about other people’s kids. I just had to share my slight sadness over my kids burgeoning independence. We know that the whole point is to raise our kids to be independent adults, but it still doesn’t make it any easier to find out they need you less and less each year.

Not Much to Say, Just Checking In

Bloggers

Hello Readers,
Really, my blog title says it all, not much going on in my life right now other than keeping my kids from getting bored this summer. I am fixated on the debt ceiling debacle and the S&P credit downgrade. Although I am a Democrat, I blame both parties for this for allowing the debt ceiling issue to go unchecked until the 11th hour, again. The leaders clearly do not have control of the issues, otherwise they would have seen this coming. Pandering to special interests do not help the greater good of the American public. I would love to ask Eric Cantor or Speaker Boehner how many Tea Party votes they’ll get for this bullshit next year.
